How to Care for Your Silk Products

Silk Care Guide

Your silk products are an investment in your beauty and wellness. With proper care, they'll stay soft, smooth, and luxurious for years to come. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your silk looking and feeling its best.

Washing Your Silk

Hand Washing (Recommended)

  1. Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water (never hot!)
  2. Add a small amount of gentle, pH-neutral detergent or silk-specific wash
  3. Submerge your silk item and gently swish it around for 3-5 minutes
  4. Avoid twisting, wringing, or scrubbing the fabric
  5. Rinse thoroughly with cold water until all soap is removed
  6. Gently press out excess water - never wring or twist

Machine Washing

If you prefer machine washing:

  • Place silk items in a mesh laundry bag for protection
  • Use the delicate/gentle cycle with cold water
  • Use a gentle, pH-neutral detergent (avoid harsh chemicals)
  • Never use bleach, fabric softener, or harsh stain removers
  • Wash silk separately from rough fabrics like denim or towels

How Often to Wash

  • Pillowcases: Every 1-2 weeks (or weekly if you use hair products)
  • Sleep masks: Every 1-2 weeks
  • Scrunchies: As needed, typically every 2-3 weeks

Drying Your Silk

Air Drying (Best Method)

  • Lay flat on a clean, dry towel away from direct sunlight
  • Roll the towel gently to absorb excess moisture
  • Reshape the item and lay flat to dry completely
  • Avoid hanging wet silk as it may stretch
  • Keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight

Tumble Drying

If you must use a dryer:

  • Use the lowest heat setting or air-dry cycle only
  • Remove items while still slightly damp to prevent over-drying
  • Never use high heat - it can damage silk fibers

Ironing & Steaming

  • Iron only when necessary, while silk is still slightly damp
  • Use the lowest heat setting (silk/delicate setting)
  • Always iron on the reverse side or use a pressing cloth
  • Steaming is a gentler alternative - hold steamer 6 inches away
  • Never leave the iron in one spot for too long

Storage Tips

  • Store silk items in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Avoid plastic bags - silk needs to breathe
  • Use breathable cotton storage bags for long-term storage
  • Keep away from rough surfaces that could snag the fabric
  • Don't store silk when damp - ensure it's completely dry

What to Avoid

  • Hot water - Can cause shrinkage and damage fibers
  • Bleach - Will damage and discolor silk
  • Harsh detergents - Use only gentle, pH-neutral products
  • Fabric softener - Unnecessary and can leave residue
  • Direct sunlight - Can fade colors and weaken fibers
  • Rough handling - Avoid twisting, wringing, or pulling

Pro Tips

  • Treat stains immediately by blotting (never rubbing) with cold water
  • For stubborn stains, consult a professional dry cleaner who specializes in silk
  • White vinegar in the rinse water can help restore silk's natural shine
  • Silk may feel slightly stiff when dry - this is normal and will soften with use
  • Rotate between multiple silk pillowcases to extend their lifespan

Troubleshooting

My silk feels rough or stiff

This can happen after washing. Try adding a small amount of hair conditioner to the rinse water, or steam gently to restore softness.

There's a water spot on my silk

Wet the entire item and wash as normal. Water spots occur when only part of the silk gets wet.

My silk has a snag

Gently pull the fabric from the back to work the snag back into place. Avoid cutting loose threads.
